Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment that involves using clear, removable aligners to straighten and align teeth. These aligners are custom-made for each patient and are virtually invisible when worn, making them a more discreet option than traditional braces.
Clear aligners are made from flexible, virtually invisible, BPA-free, medical-grade plastic. This is why they are referred to as “invisible braces.” This material is specifically designed to comfortably and securely fit over the teeth, allowing for gradual movement and alignment. The aligners are custom-made for each individual’s unique dental structure.
Invisalign gradually shifts the teeth into their desired position by applying gentle and consistent pressure. They can be removed for eating, drinking, and oral hygiene, making it a convenient and comfortable alternative to braces.
Orthodontics require a personalized approach which is why the first step is to schedule a consultation. Our dentist will evaluate your dental health and your specific needs. There are certain instances where an Invisalign treatment plan may not be for you, particularly if you have large gaps or have severe overbite, underbite, or overcrowding issues. If this is the case, we’ll explore other treatment options together to help you get the smile you deserve.
Invisalign Can Help You Achieve a New Smile
As mentioned above, you need to schedule a free consultation with our dentist first. During this visit, he will assess your smile and the state of your oral health to determine if Invisalign treatment is the right option for your orthodontic needs. This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about the treatment process, treatment time, discuss your smile goals, etc.
Next, a 3D scanner is used to create a detailed digital map of your teeth. This scan allows for a precise view of your current tooth alignment and bite. From there, a treatment plan is made that will show the movement of your teeth into their ideal position.
Using your 3D scan and treatment plan, Invisalign creates a series of custom aligners specifically designed for your teeth. These aligners are then shipped back to us so we’ll see you back in our dental office where you’ll receive your first set. You’ll receive the next in the series of aligners after a couple of weeks unless otherwise stated by the dentist since everyone’s treatment plan varies.
You’ll begin wearing your first set of aligners, which gently and slowly shift your teeth into their desired positions. Aligners should be worn 22 hours a day to ensure optimal progress. Unlike braces, clear aligners are removable to eat, drink, brush and floss. This allows you to continue practicing good oral hygiene and not have to worry about dietary restrictions. Eat and drink what you want and clean your teeth without having to navigate around metal brackets and wires!
Throughout your Invisalign treatment, you’ll have to visit us regularly to monitor your progress and ensure that everything is on track. All appointments will be scheduled according to your specific treatment plan where you’ll receive your next set of aligners. These appointments could be scheduled anywhere from every 2-8 weeks.
Many patients report noticing a difference in their smile in just a few weeks. By staying diligent about wearing your aligners as directed and continuing to maintain your oral hygiene, you can be confident in achieving your desired results within the estimated timeline.
